Weak mud stone dominates the rock mass at the southwestern Taiwan. Mudstone slakes significantly when it meetsrnwater because of a short diagenetic period and poor cementation. Gulley is visible on the slope surface after a rainfall.rnThe low slaking durability resistance of the mud stone causes not only the geographic bad land but also the erosionrnproblems to the highway slopes in the mudstone area. An effective countermeasure to the mud stone slope mustrncontribute to the surface erosion reduction, slope surface drainage in a rainfall, and high strength structure to fightrnagainst the swelling stress, vegetation preservation, and slope stabilization. In this study, a new Soil-Tire-VegetationrnMethod (STV) is applied to an excavated mud stone slope at the southwestern Taiwan as a slope erosionrncountermeasure. STV is composed of abandon tires, H-beam and geotextile. The tires are good to preserve soil for thernvegetations on mud stone slopes to mitigate the slope erosion. The H-beam supports the weight of the vegetation andrnsoils in the tires. The geotextile prevents the loss of fine grain soil and guarantees the slope drainage during the heavyrnrainfall. The experimental results at the mud stone slopes with slope angles of 30 degrees and 45 degrees validate thatrnthe STV protects the mud stone slope.
