Introduction One of the most exciting findings in the field of Au catalysis is that small-size Au nanoparticles are able to promote the selective oxidation of alcohols, which is of great importance in the production of fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals. Heterogeneous Au catalysts have a good feature for the separation and recycle, but their catalytic activities are much lower than those of homogeneous ones. Herein, toward the goals of high activity and good recyclability, a new Au catalyst is successfully designed and prepared by supporting Au nanoparticles in the mesopores of pyrrolidone-modified SBA-15 (Au/SBA-15-Py).
