The SCARAB software is a tool for calculating the motionrnand aerothermal destruction of spacecraft enteringrnthe Earth’s atmosphere. To increase the accuracy of thernre-entry simulation for spacecraft containing CFRP asrnwall material, the modelling of the properties of CFRPrnwas improved. Different to the simple conventionalrn”metallic” model with monolithic properties a sophisticatedrnmodel with different zones with different propertiesrnand taking into account additional effects was developed.rnFirst a mathematical model was formulated, which wasrnthen converted to a numerical model. The numerical 1Drnmodel was tested in a testbed software, then implementedrninto the SCARAB software and applied to wind tunnelrnconditions and the re-entry of the ROSAT satellite.
