Real Time Loss Recovery for ATM Cell Transmission using Variable FEC Matrix

Cell loss is one of the major factors that degrade QoS of real time services. The conventional FEC methods for guaranteeing the cell loss do not take into account the characteristic of ATM networks completely, thus the implementation of FEC make the bandwidth efficiency of the network become worse. In this paper we propose a method using a variable matrix of FEC, which can dynamically guarantee the cell loss. As a result, the cell loss ratio is declined and the bandwidth efficiency is improved.
