Organic light emitting device (OLED) technology has been shown to have the brightness, range of colors and operating lifetime for full-color flat panel display applications. Moreover, recent technological advances have created exciting new opportunities for OLED displays in vehicular applications. These include the development of transparent and flexible displays as well as the demonstration of enhanced contrast and brightness for high ambient light environments. The application and advantages of this technology in vehicular applications as well as recent progress in this area are discussed.
