Re-use of reclaimed foundry sand is not only an environmental prevention aspect but is day by day offering economical advantages to the foundrymen. The present work shows the recovery of green foundry sand mixed with cold box and hot box core sand mixed with coldbox regeneration system starting from a prototype test unit which later was extended to a full size production unit, whereby 150.000 tons of sand was regenerated in 3 years of operation. Criteria for deciding on the type of regeneration system is being investigated, followed by a description of the system chosen by the authors is being given. Results of reclaimed sand quality, core production with the reclaimed sand, improvement in surface quality of sand grains, reduction in resin usage, savings in bentonite and coal dust additions, effect on casting surface quality, lower scabbing are being discussed in the report based on laboratory tests made and on the 3 years of practical experience. Return on investment from actual financial results is also presented.
