Remanufacturing VBT~(TM) Vacuum Interrupter Modules

This paper shows how VBT modules can be remanufactured using a standard off-the-shelf vacuum interrupter. Even though the internal parts of the remanufactured VBT module are not exactly the same as the original VBT module, substantial field experience has demonstrated that for practical purposes the two parts are interchangeable. The life of the remanufactured module is as good or better than that of the original equipment. Remanufactured modules are expected to consistently achieve 100,000 or more operations. In the next two years a significant number of modules installed in the field will exceed this number and will provide definitive evidence of the quality of this module design.
