CONSTEEL to FASTEEL: The Future of Steelmaking

The benefits of charging hot metal and continuously fed scrap into an electric arc furnace (EAF) equipped with CONSTEEL~R will be discussed. Plant data from a facility using up to 30 percent hot metal will be reviewed. The FASTEEL concept will also be unveiled. FASTEEL~(TM) is the combination of the FASTMELT~R process by Kobe Steel Limited and Midrex Technologies Inc for producing hot metal from coal based DRI and the CONSTEEL process for making steel by Techint Technologies Inc. This paper will describe the process flow and operation of a FASTEEL facility and the inherent benefits.
