The quantitative analysis of electrode polarization and pH measurement has been of great importance in in situ and in vivo monitoring of biological applications. The cyclic voltammograph and transient current of the electrode polarization of the step potential was characterized and evaluated. By using a stainless steel electrode, we were able to clearly differentiate among KC1 solutions ranging from pH 5.76 to pH 10.13. Our results indicated that the polarization current was highly sensitive to pH value. The CV with scan rate 1 volt/s has the best pH discrimination. The advantages of this technique include minimized electrode and short response time, making the stainless steel electrode a practical choice for either in situ or in vivo tests.
