The "exact" linear elastic (elasticity) solution is applied to a cylindrically curved, thin-faced sandwich panel with hinged edges. The loading considered is a constant lateral pressure load over a (small) rectangular area represented by double Fourier series. Stresses and deflections are compared with FE results requiring a rather fine mesh due to very thin faces and extensive calculation time. The analytical calculation makes use of the program MATLAB, which requires significantly less calculation time on a Macintosh G4 computer. The results converge to the results for flat plates when the radius of curvature becomes large or infinite. The formulation allows for constant inplane stresses to be superimposed, thus amplifying the deflections the lateral load is set to zero and the eigenvalues are determinated. Similar, the eigenfrequencies are calculated, assuming that the applied membrane stress is sinusoidal in time.
