摘要

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the legibility of egress route in large and complex buildings for occupants' evacuation safety. The authors have been considering the expected travel distance (ETD) as one of the measures to quantify the legibility of egress route. ETD is a stochastic measure of travel distance from the specified origin to any exit in a network of passages. Process of network modeling of passages and calculation results of ETD is introduced. Through the case study, calculation results of the average of expected travel distance (AETD) of actual passage plans are presented. And discussions about the approximation of AETD and the effect of arrangement of exits are described.
