The French 900 MWe-series PWR and the Belgian Tihange 1 PWR have a comparable Framatome design. PSA level 1 studies for internal events have been performed for both NPPs. In the framework of the cooperation between French and Belgian regulatory authorities, a PSA comparison exercise has been recently set up. The main technical objective of the comparison was to understand the important differences between the PSA results, and especially to identify if the differences are due to design differences or to differences in PSA methods and data. The paper describes the general comparison methodology illustrated by some detailed examples. Several important insights are drawn from this exercise concerning plant safety, as well as PSA methodology and model improvements.
