DYNAMIC INTERCONNECTION OF CONSUMER ELECTRONICS AND HOME AUTOMATION NETWORKS

In this paper the dynamic interconnection between consumer electronics and home automation networks is discussed. As there are different networks in the home the user has to deal with various user interfaces and inter-network applications are not possible. The idea of network interconnection is to overcome the borders between the networks and to provide functionality, which is available in one network, to devices of the other network. A three layer service architecture is introduced to compare consumer electronics and home automation networks. Based on this architecture some characteristics of network interconnections will be described. As an example an implementation of a one-way control gateway which allows HAVi based consumer electronic devices to use home automation services provided by the field bus LON will be presented.
