Putting the IET code of practice for grid connected solar photovoltaic systems into practice

Published in 2015, the IET Code of Practice for Grid Connected Solar Photovoltaic Systems (IET Solar PV CoP) [1] was developed by the IET and a committee of solar industry experts to provide a measure of confidence that solar photovoltaic (PV) systems of all scales are competently, safely and effectively installed. Previous UK documents only addressed systems up to 50kW capacity, implying that over half the UK's PV capacity has been installed without any frame of reference linking to relevant UK and international standards and current good practice guidance. This paper discusses the requirements of the IET Solar PV CoP in the context of previous UK technical guidance for solar design and installation, how these best practices should be implemented and the value that they bring to a solar project.
