NIE Networks' distribution system is heavily connected with Distributed Generation (DG) resulting in significant reverse power flows at many primary substations. Amongst other issues, this has resulted in DG saturation at substations where NIE Networks, in the absence of network reinforcement, are unable to issue additional DG connection offers. This paper seeks to inform the industry on some of the more prevalent issues associated with operating a distribution system in reverse power flow and the current solutions employed within NIE Networks to overcome these issues.
