Dilute chromate and nickel process liquid from a galvanic nickel-chromium plating plant was treated in a GBC reactor fed with hydrogen to remove the metallic compounds from the process liquids. It was found that the reduction of chromate depends strongly on the nature of the cathode material.Graphite and active carbon particles are useful as bed material.However,reticulated vitreous carbon (RVC) and titanium are unsuitable for use as cathode materials when the GBC reactor works in a galvanic operation mode.The pH of the solution and the chromate concentrations determine significantly the rate of chromate reduction.
