A detailed transient computer analysis of an attic with radiant barriers is presented. The computer model included radiation, forced and free covection, and conduction, as well, as, ventilation in the attic. The solar flux and ambient temperatures were taken to be transient rather than constant. The purpose of the analysis was to determine the impact of varying numerous parameters. The following vriations were studied: ventilation, celiling R values, roof shingle absorptivity/ emissivity, barrier reflectivity, humidity ratio. Of particular interest in the study was the roof sheating temperature increase due to installation of a radiant barrier thuse accelerating deterioration of the roof material. No significant change was detected in the roof sheathing temperature.
