We hsow that the simple one degree of fredom impact oscillator can have coexisting attractors of different types. We discuss the problem of the stability of one of them, the chaotic one. We point out that the concept of the classical asymptotic stability of attractors is not always acceptable from a practical point of view. We have applied the concept of the practical stability and proposed a simple controlling procedure to ensure the practical stability of desired attriactors.
