摘要

Within the pre-phase A study, first concepts for habitat modules have been developed based on the mission related objectives and the top-level requirements for a manned long-term mission to Mars. The basic conceptual criteria in designing a proper habitat were its light weight, safety and modular extendable design. Fundamental concepts for the life support system have been defined and considered when selecting the appropriate design. Investigations done till now, lead to a new concept in habitat module arrangement. The productive food supply implements fermentation and molecular genetic modification in order to grow sufficient masses of single-cell cultures inside the habitat for daily nutrition. The production system exhibits low requirements, high productivity and effectual redundancy while remaining configurable. The modification of used organisms can guarantee a well-balanced nutrition offering food and nutriments in a bottom-up approach.
