Membrane filter media offers EAF operators the possibility to improve draft off of the furnace, which improves fugitive emission capture, and at the same time reduces total plant emissions - especially PM 2.5 and heavy metals. This can be accomplished while increasing the temperature capabilities of the existing APC system. The higher temperature limit and lower resistance of these filters allows reductions in the amount of required dilution air, reducing the baghouse gas volume while increasing the available suction from the furnace direct evacuation control system. The higher temperature capabilities of the material allow for better resistance to bag life and performance problems associated with light spard damage and excess moisture conditions. This paper will discuss the performance of this filter media in EAF applications, focusing on the economic implications of this performance.Specific examples will be cited.
