A Study on Easy Connection Optical Fiber for FTTH

We have developed a new optical fiber, a wipe-free fiber, which can eliminate wiping process after coating removal. A special single layer coating for the fiber is designed to have an optimized strength and reduced adhesion to fiber glass surface so that the coating may not break and remain a piped shape after removal. These features realize negligible particles and residues on glass surface after coating removal and can eliminate the wiping process. A manufactured wipe-free fiber has demonstrated a total operation time of fiber connection reduced to 40 % of that for a conventional optical fiber. Furthermore an optical indoor cable employing the wipe-free fiber has demonstrated good mechanical and optical properties.
