Due to the fast growing of ADSL subscribers numbers in Brazil, initially were developed and launched xDSL cables from 10 up to 2400 pairs using 0,40mm conductor diameter designed to perform at frequencies up to 8,5 MHz and 0,50mm performed at frequencies up to 40 MHz adequate to be applied with xDSL technologies (ADSL, ADSL2, ADSL 2+, VDSL, etc) with 100% of pair occupation on links up to 5 km. More recently, the outside plant of some Telecommunication Operators faced different challenges presented by the Brazilian broadband market. Stimulated by fast growing of ADSL services, number of subscribers and optical network, the hybrid cable was developed to attend telecommunications companies needs. This paper presents the development of hybrid xDSL metallic and optical cable, to provide good performance for broadband transmission.
