One of the projects of development of a long-term base on the Moon, dealing with the first stage of works prior to the building of the base itself, is considered. The main task of this period is the choice of the place of the future Lunar Base building. To solve this task, reconnaissance expeditions to the several regions of the Moon with participation of cosmonauts were supposed to collect information about possible sites if the Lunar Base building. A heavy lunokhod, which serves as temporary habitation for cosmonauts as well as means of transportation and moveable laboratory, was intended to be used at this stage of the project.
