Resonant cavities and modified quarter-wave (λ/4) stacks of alternating polymers, poly(9-vinylcarbazole) and poly(vinyl alcohol), have been deposited on silica glass substrates by spin-coating under room conditions. A study of the transmittance of single layers allows to determine the refractive index and absorption coefficient dispersion curves of those polymers for a multilayer structure model. Comparing simulations and measurements of the transmittance spectra for stacks of the polymeric materials confirms a high control of thickness achieved away from the edge of substrate. The high spectral sensitivity upon variations of thickness opens the way to perform easy and inexpensive filters and sensors, including the integration into other active devices.
