CONSIDERATIONS FOR DESIGN ― OPERATION OF A RECLAIMER

A Reclaimer will perform efficiently if operation is stable. The following key issues in achieving stable operating conditions: 1. Liquid level should not undergo sudden variations, nor should there be liquid carryover with the vapors exiting from the top 2. Temperature control by addition of water should be adequate. 3. Temperature of the heating media should be as low as possible. 4. The Reclaimer must be designed with a proper L/D ratio. For example L/D=3 to 4. 5. Removal of contaminants from both the gas and the amine streams as well as from the makeup water is critical. Results: 1. The salt concentration observed in the circulating amine solution at the Sierra Chata Field plant was brought to very low levels 2. Corrosion and foaming in the contact towers were minimized.
