Clothes Care: Sending the Right Signals

Clothes are about sex & power as well as cover & warmth. The world of fashion, design and apparel manufacture is about delivering these desires at point-of-sale; the world of clothes care should be about maintaining and, if possible, enhancing them. The paper explores how these desires translate to the signals we get from clothes, describes some technology used by the apparel manufacture chain, and looks at the way the detergent industry takes up the challenge of clothes care.
