Water resources system analysis for Ba River Catchment of Vietnam

Ba River catchment is ranked 8th among the 13 largest catchments in Vietnam and is reported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) as near water scarce (Fig.1).During dry periods, the monthly supply rate for many major water users in the catchment drops below 60% (Table 1).Consequently, conflicts on water use have arisen between hydropower generation and the remaining stakeholders, especially hydropower generation and agricultural production. In order to increase the monthly demand supply rate for all major water users, a comprehensive analysis of the whole water resources system, including the current water resources infrastructure and management, water demands and supplies, and operation of hydropower reservoirs is required.
