The Conservation Method of Angkor Thom Royal Plaza, Kingdom of Cambodia

Angkor Thorn Royal Plaza is not only a unique, magnificent historical plaza in the Southeast Asia, but one of the important place for the future culture assets among the Angkor monuments. From archaeological excavations, the original morphology of the plaza needs to be clarified. Inscription and historical books has gave the clue for the original usage of the plaza. These important results are the basis for the cultural revival and tourism for the Royal plaza. For the future utilization, discussion and common understandings cannot be lacked. This paper has shown the method which Japanese Government Team for Safeguarding Angkor (JSA) adopted to conserve the Royal Plaza and the Prasat Suor Prat terrace. Through out the discussion meetings and workshop held, both the academic research and the pursuit of the future usage has been put into practice. Sometimes the academic research has lead the clue to the future usage and the reverse can also be said. The method expects for more attempts of research development and utilization plans.
