Since the last few decades, various modified asphalt mixtures have been used for the pavements of the airport, highway, bridges, and other heavy traffic roads in the world. Since SBS modified asphalt mixtures showed predominant performances over other modified asphalt mixtures, the performance evaluation of SBS modified asphalt mixtures for various mix gradations were carried out in this study. As a binder, chemically-crosslinked SBS modified asphalt binders of PG 76-22 which were manufactured by SK Corporation in Korea were used for asphalt mixtures with the variety of gradations. Totally 14 kinds of gradations such as 9 kinds of gradations with 19 mm maximum aggregates and 5 kinds of gradations with 13mm maximum aggregates were used to evaluate the optimum asphalt contents(OAC), air voids, voids in mineral aggregate(VMA), dust proportions(DP), film thickness, dynamic stabilities(DS) from wheel tracking tests, and toughness from indirect tensile tests. Aggregate gradations consisted of mainly dense and Superpave gradations. The Marshall mix design method was used to evaluate asphalt mixture volumetrics for all samples. The effects of aggregate gradations on mixture volumetrics, rutting resistance performance, and fatigue cracking resistance performance were well evaluated. And the comparison of modified asphalt mixtures with conventional asphalt mixtures was also performed in this study.
