The new office building of the Ministry of Transport at Terneuzen in the Netherlands is a sustainable and energy efficient building with a good indoor environment. Figure 1 shows the model of the building. The building is constructed of sustainable materials, well insulated, has a good daylight situation and is equipped with a minimum of building services. Passive and natural sources have been utilised as much as possible. An advanced natural ventilation system provides the fresh air and controls the thermal comfort. A heat pump uses the canal water as a heat source and delivers heat supply for the low temperature wall and floor heating system. The DHW for the building is produced by a solar collector system and 54 m of PV cells generate a part of the electricity. Measurements are carried out to analyse the performance of the building and the building services. The conclusion of the results are promising, nevertheless the monitoring phase has not been finished yet.
