On the basic of steel flow simulation for a five-strand billet caster tundish in non-normal liquid level condition by a water model, the change law of fluid flow for tundish with various flow control devices in several liquid level conditions was obtained, and the cause of slag entrapment was analyzed. The limited liquid heights of slag entrapment for tundish at various casting speeds and the waiting time for the caster running properly in non-normal casting condition were obtained. In addition, the results of the physical simulation of steel flow for tundish in non-normal liquid level condition were in good agreement with the numerical simulation. The comparison results show that the simulation results can provide theoretical guidance for the practical production.
