There are various conflicts in the period of collaborative design. It is especially valuable to assist designers to detect and negotiate the conflicts with computers. The authors propose a conflict detection and negotiation system framework that is composed of Product Modeling Technique supporting conflict handling, Process Management of conflict handling and Supporting Environment for negotiation. The Product Modeling Technique supporting conflict handling is the base of the framework. Process Management of conflict handling, which consists of conflict handling flow, conflict detection algorithm and conflict mitigation and negotiation strategy, controls the conflict handling process. The Supporting Environment for negotiation, which is made up of individual/collaborative viewing and mark-up system, mailing system, net-meeting system and electronic whiteboard, supports collaboration among the designers. The framework is a Web computation scheme. Some modules are implemented with Web/Plug-in technique, and the conceived functions of unfulfilled modules are also listed.
