ODIN ATTITUDE CONTROL SYSTEM TESTING -AN INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATION

Odin is a Swedish small satellite for astronomy and aeronomy missions. These observations demand an attitude control with an accuracy of not less than 1.2 arc min. This paper begins with a description of the Odin Attitude Control System (ACS) and the operation modes. This is followed by a description of the open-loop and closed-loop tests and their objectives. The facility required for these tests includes optical ground support equipment and a real-time simulator. The main features of this facility are presented here. The open-loop tests have been completed and the closed-loop tests are ongoing in Canada. The results obtained so far have proven the usefulness of this ACS test facility in verifying ACS flight hardware and software performances.
