摘要

The carbon nanotube sheets and yarns are made by solid-state fabrication. The processes involve growth of the nanotube forests by chemical vapor deposition and then drawing a sheet or narrow ribbon from the nanotube forest. Inserting twist during draw transforms the ribbon to a yarn. This solid-state process is scalable for continuous, high-rate production. The produced highly-oriented, free-standing nanotube sheets are transparent, electrically conductive, and strong. The yarns have strength greater than 650 megapascals and are creep, chemicals, and radiation resistant and highly conducting. The properties and the applications of the carbon nanotube sheets and yarns are presented.
