CSN's STRATEGY FOR ROLL PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT IN THE HOT STRIP MILL

Improvements in the equipment and operation have contributed to the hot strip mill n° 2 at CSN to exceed its nominal capacity from 267000 t/month to about 416000 t/month, improving productivity and quality. The partnership with Villares have allowed CSN to go along with the evolution of the roll materials used in the hot strip mill, having considerable savings in roll expenses and also much higher performances levels measured by wear performance and surface condition. Villares have also learnt with this partnership, getting excellent results from field experiments, having better comprehension of the surface deterioration phenomena, decreasing development times and achieving quality improvements.
