We consider a wireless system with multiple chan-nelsrnwhen each channel has several different transmission states.rnDifferent states are associated with different probabilities of suc-cessfulrntransmissions. In such networks, we are faced with makingrntransmission decisions in the presence of partial informationrnabout channel states. This (typically probabilistic) informationrnabout any channel can be refined by sending control packets inrnthe channels. In presence of multiple alternative channels, thisrnprocess of probing every channel to find the best one is onerousrnand resource consuming. There is a natural tradeoff between thernresource consumed in probing and the estimate of channel staternwe can obtain. The desired tradeoff can be attained by judiciouslyrndetermining which and how many channels to probe and alsornwhich channel to transmit. We present adaptive algorithms forrnprovably approximating the desired tradeoffs within constantrnfactors.
