According to the Medium and Long Term Development Plan for Nuclear Power in China, a significant number of new nuclear power plants are required by the year 2020. As one of the Generation Ⅳ nuclear power system, Super Critical Water Cooled Reactor (SCWR) has the advantages of high thermal efficiency, low cost, etc.. SCWR builds upon two proven technologies of LWR and the supercritical coal-fired plant. In the past decades, China has gained abundant experiences in construction and operation of PWR and supercritical coal fired power plants. Considering the technical experience and development objective, it is a practical choice to develop SCWR technologies in China in the future.
