During the past 20 years, the possibility that mine water might be treated passively has developed from an experimental concept to full-scale field implementation. Passive technologies, which are superior to active methods, take advantage of the natural chemical and biological processes that ameliorate contaminated water conditions. This article conducted research on the treatment of AMD by using passive water treatment technology-SAPs (Successive Alkalinity Producing System), and originally applied the fermentation end products of woodchip-chicken manure mixture as the carbon source of sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB). The results show that after being kept in the experimental facility for a certain time, the AMD obtains enough alkalinity, and the removal efficiency of Fe2+ and Cu2+ are both more than 90%, also with a significant decline in the concentration of SO42-. But its removal capability for Mn2+ is not so ideal.
