This paper examines the usage of electrical resistivity on a sanitary landfill in Malaysia. It demonstrates the successful use of the electrical imaging method to delineate and characterise waste disposal sites. A Campus multi-electrode resistivity meter system was used to carry out the 2-D electrical imaging surveys and the RES2DINV software was used to invert the data to provide a geological model of the subsurface. As most contaminated sites tend to be of limited size, a modified Wenner-Schlumberger array was designed which enabled more measurement points to be made over a limited area. This survey was able to accurately differentiate wastes of different ages based on their resistivity values. It was also able to delineate the waste boundaries by the different resistivity values detected from the bund walls and clay liners. Possible salt-water intrusion was also detected undlerneath the landfill. The site was imaged from a depth of 1.3 m to 80 m.
