This paper develops strain models based upon FEA simulations for an oval pan. The relationships for strain are at locations close to potential sites for embedded sensors including where the maximum plane strains occur. The models use draw bead position, blank holder force, and draw depth as input parameters. The model may be used for determining draw bead and blank holder trajectories to maximize draw depth. Additionally, the models presented may be used to provide a real time estimate of strains during forming without the aid of FEA codes. FEA simulations were compared to experimental results and were shown to agree closely in the regions where critical plane strains in the pan occurred.
