Samples of soil fines from construction and demolition waste recycling facilities were collected for 14 sites in South Florida. The total and leachable concentrations for 10 heavy metals were measured to determine applicability in various reuse options. When compared with the risk-based concentration limits set forth in Federal and State policy, the only metal found to be of potential concern was arsenic. The geometric mean of arsenic was 2,28 mg/kg, which is near the controversial background levels for Florida soils. None of the metals were observed to leach above national drinking water standards using the synthetic precipitation leaching procedure (SPLP).
