This paper describes two recent applications of the tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS) technique run at 2.7 μm (3700 cm~(-1)) to characterize, in a direct absorption time-resolved scheme, simultaneously the temperature, the pressure and the concentrations of CO_2 and H_2O species in the exhaust gases of a scramjet combustor and of a H_2O_2/HDPE hybrid rocket motor. The measured temperatures compare well to numerical simulations but discrepancies are noted for species concentrations.
