摘要

Design of a 3 to 5 kW magnetron for use in an electronically steerable phased array transmitter in the Solar Power Satellite. The tube is open to vacuum. Its high DC-to-microwave efficiency (85 to 90%) allows it to radiate dissipation losses directly to space via a low mass pyrolytic graphite radiator. With the aid of external circuitry the tube performs as a phase-locked, high-gain amplifier. The tube also contains a buckboost coil for remote control of output amplitude and for power-conditioning interface with solar photovoltaic array.
