DEMONSTRATION PROJECT OPENS DOOR FOR MICROWAVE TREATMENT TO DISPLACE INCINERATION OF BIOMEDICAL WASTE IN CANADA

摘要

A microwave disinfection system was demonstrated at a Canadian hospital site that traditionally incinerated biomedical waste. The demonstration allowed critical assessment by regulation agencies, and represents a key step to general acceptance of the technology. Study results showed the microwave system to be an effective and economic treatment method, which produced treated product that can be sent to municipal landfill.
