Little, if any, research has been published dealing with the sustainable life cycle costing of virtual teams in 3D worlds. This paper will outline a preliminary framework for the life cycle model of virtual teams that operate in an immersive world such as Second Life®.To counter the pressure from stiffer competition, organizations have grown a more networked structure composed of globally dispersed teams of experts. However, as many advantages as these teams provide, there exist drawbacks as well in virtual and global teams in particular. In this paper, the goal is to formulate the framework for a holistic model which looks at the costs and benefits of having a virtual team in a virtual world.The delineation of the framework will advance our understanding of virtual teams in immersive worlds; more specifically how to measure the costs and benefits associated with them.
