Determination of the groundwater component of the reserve using the intermediate reserve determination method

The recently promulgated Natinal Water Act of South Africa requires water for basic human needs and aquatic ecosystems be reserved before allocation to other water users. Determination of the Reserve can be done at four levels of detail and confidence. This paper describes the method to set the groundwater component of an intermediate Reserve determination. The method centres around determination fo recharge, adjustments for basic human water needs and baseflow and ongoing monitoring.
