Arrays of FBGs were fabricated by using the photolitografic method with the improvement of the stretch and write technique, which allows to write several gratings at different wavelengths by employing the same phase mask. Arrays of up to five gratings with peak separation of about 1 nm were written on the same fiber. FBGs were hence applied on a specimen of steel material in order to verify their performance as strain sensors. Simultaneous test measurements with electrical strain gauges have been carried out showing a very good a greement of the two kind of sensors.
