The paper describes the joint research efforts made by Research & Development Centre for Iron and Steel and Bhilai Steel Plant for upgradation of sintering technology of plants commissioned during 1961-1979. Simulated sinter mix charging study in a pilot scale has established that segreagation index i.e the ratio of percentage minus 3 mm fraction of top layer (100 mm) of sinter mixcould be increased by the increase of rolling length and angle of inclination of sloping chute. industrial investigations have revealed that there was 13
