Cognitive effects of multimedia presentation of technical information

摘要

This study deals with the effect of different multimedia presentation modes on the understanding and memorization of information about a technical device (an electric motor). This research issue has come back into the foreground with the thrust of advanced techniques in telecommunications and new multimedia exchange tools in the production industries. An important question that has arisen is: What is the impact of the joint presentation of text, pictures, and sound on the construction of mental representations? The answer to this question should help us determine the important factors in organizing multimedia information, and suggest some useful avenues for designing effective multimedia presentation systems that will promote the assimilation of technical information.
