There has been increasing interest in the synthesis of nanostructures based on transition metal chalcogenides with layered structure such as molybdenum disulphide (MoS_2) because of their potential applications in areas such as electrochemistry and lubrication, as well as host materials for intercalation chemistry. Recently, it has been predicted and experimentally demonstrated the existence of transition metal chalcogenides nanostructures in the form of fullerene-like (Inorganic Fullerene, IF) nanoparticles, as well as in monodimensional and two dimensional structures.
